10 on Tuesdays: June 2012 Edition

1. What are your designated chores in your home?
I always grocery shop, and Wes always handles the lawn.  Other than that, we kind of tag-team it up, on most things.   I do the majority of the cooking and laundry, although Wes helps when he needs to, and I almost always save the folding so he can help (we both hate folding passionately)  I have to say that Wes is really great, as far as husband’s go.  If he’s home, he helps– and I probably don’t appreciate that as much as I should!

2. What is your least favorite chore to do around the house?
Folding and putting away clothes.  Hands down!

3. What was your designated chore growing up?
Cleaning my room and my half of the bathroom.  Looking back, I realize we had it really, really easy.  My kids won’t have it so easy, though…I am already dreaming of all the help they are going to be, when they get a little older!  At least, in my daydreams, that’s how it works!

4. Did you get paid to do chores or was your allowance connected to you completing your chores?
We did get an allowance, which  was $5 per week.   Technically, it was for chores, but if I wasn’t home for a week or whatever, I still recieved it.  Like I said, I had it pretty easy.  On the flip side of that, my Dad considered practicing basketball, and working towards that elusive sports scholarship, as a “job” in and of itself.  And, that job, I was not allowed to slack off from .  So, maybe Mom cut me some slack around the house out of pity??

5. If you had a bit of extra money, would you hire a cleaning person or would you save the money for something else?
Confession…when I was teaching and shooting at the same time, I was so desperate for extra time, I did hire a cleaning person.  Miss Jan is wonderful, and I love her so much, I kept her even after I converted to full-time photography, and I consider the time she saves me around the house one of my very best investments!  Photographers are always talking about outsourcing whatever part of their workload they can, and outsourcing housekeeping is definitely more cost effecient than outsourcing album design or editing!  If I could just figure out a way to outsource that dang laundry….

6. What chores will you make your kids do around the house?
Abree makes up her bed, picks up toys, wipes down the table after dinner, and occasionally helps fold clothes or take out the trash.  Kenzie doesn’t do very much at this point, because it generally requires more work to supervise her than it’s worth.  Soon, though, we will have to get started with her.

7. How frequently do you do laundry? Wash your sheets? Dust?
I like to do laundry once per week, in one huge, painful lump.  It’s really not the laundry that I hate…but the folding and putting away at the end.  So, I save it all for one day, and Friday just happens to be my grocery/chore day.  I wash sheets every couple of weeks, and I rarely ever dust, b/c Ms. Jan does it on her cleaning day.

8. Do you have a designated “chore day” during the week?
See above.

9. What is your favorite chore–if such a thing exists?
I love grocery shopping.   I wish I loved cooking as much.  I WANT to love cooking…but I just get so impatient.

10. Do you do anything to help pass the time while doing chores (music, TV, etc.)?
I like to watch TV while I fold.  Other than that, no.
Gosh, this was kind of a lame 10 on Tuesdays!!  Chores are not the most exciting of topics.  I will try to pick a better theme next month!  Happy Tuesday!
